A nationally recognized leader in dermatology and dermatologic surgery. Her expertise is in the areas of skin cancer diagnosis and treatment and anti-aging procedures in all skin tones. Prior to starting her own private practice, Dr. Mariwalla was the Director of Cutaneous Oncology at St. Luke’s – Roosevelt and Beth Israel Medical Centers in New York. Having served on the faculty at Yale School of Medicine and at Columbia University, Dr. Mariwalla currently maintains her academic ties as an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Dermatology at SUNY at Stony Brook. Dr. Mariwalla is a board-certified dermatologist with fellowship training in Mohs Micrographic Surgery for skin cancers, and cosmetic surgery. Dr. Mariwalla has been recognized for extensive work in the area of dermatologic education and is considered an expert injector of fillers and neuromodulators. She has written two editions of a widely used book entitled Primer in Dermatologic Surgery which is highly regarded by residents as well as seasoned dermatologic surgeons. She was given the title of “Skin Genius” by Elle magazine in 2012 and has appeared on nationally viewed segments for Medscape on topics such as sunscreen and facial rejuvenation. In addition, Dr. Mariwalla has pioneered efforts in developing programs for maintenance of certification in her field and is noted for sharing her injection techniques during live injection demonstrations at the American Academy of Dermatology annual meetings. Her private practice has been nominated for the Best of Long Island, since its inception in 2012.
Dr. Mariwalla earned her degree in medicine at the Yale School of Medicine where she was also elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Society for overall academic and clinical excellence in medicine. She was President of her medical school and banner-bearer during graduation ceremonies. During her four years as a medical student, she completed a thesis in dendritic cell vaccines for the treatment of cancers. After medical school, Dr. Mariwalla trained in Internal Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston and returned to Yale for her residency in Dermatology where she was Chief Resident. In 2009, Dr. Mariwalla completed her fellowship in cutaneous oncology and procedural dermatology at Yale and then stayed on faculty until moving to New York. Since that time, Dr. Mariwalla has served as Director of Cutaneous Oncology at St. Luke’s – Roosevelt and Beth Israel Medical Centers where she was awarded a faculty teaching award in 2012.
Dr. Mariwalla is now in private practice, but continues to publish extensively and speaks on a regular basis at the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery and American Academy of Dermatology annual meetings. She is a co-editor of a special issue in reconstructive surgery for the Journal of Dermatologic Surgery and is editor of Surgical Pearls for the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology. In 2013, she was the youngest Chair of a national meeting in dermatology when she was Chair of the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery national meeting in Chicago, IL.
Due to her acknowledged expertise in skin cancer and dermatology, Dr. Mariwalla has been quoted in major magazines and has made television and radio appearances on 1010 WINS, The Early Show, Good Day New York, WPIX-11 and CBS 2 News. She was also asked to be the spokesperson for the Dermatologist By Your Side campaign for La Roche Posay.
When she is not practicing dermatology, Dr. Mariwalla is busy with the loves of her life: her husband Kabir, and her sons Shyer, Ashar and Ayan.
